Coal

India is the third largest producer as well as the third largest consumer of electricity. The energy sector consumes about 70 percent of the domestic coal produced. ASSOCHAM's National Council on Coal has Leading minds from Coal Industry. The objective of the council to act as nodal agency for highlighting sectoral issues to the government and help in promoting research and dissemination of Sustainable Coal Mining practices.

The Council identifies issues and challenges in coal which affect investments, profitability and market participation. Council has strongly advocated the opening of Commercial coal mining in India through various stakeholder consultations, meeting with senior government officials and necessary representation submitted to the Government along with related concerns of the industry such as availability of Coal, transportation, use of modern mining techniques.
